I Knew John Edwards Was A Womanizer When I First Laid Eyes On Him

I had his number right off the bat.

Did John Edwards Burn Down A Courthouse?

Here's one I wasn't expecting, which in my mind raises more questions than can be answered presently. But we can make some very good educated guesses!

The short story is that a courthouse in North Carolina, the very courthouse where they were keeping the John Edwards sex tape, was destroyed by fire. Officials aren't saying for sure what might have happened, but they're checking John Edwards for signs of smoke odor. And match DNA on his fingers. If they make a match they'll find out where the match was. In his hot little hand!

The speculation here -- my own -- is that something terrible happened. My own suspicion, and I have no more facts at my disposal, is that Edwards probably had something to do with it. That there's something on that sex tape, if nothing more than the sex act itself, that he doesn't want us to see. But is he willing to burn down an entire courthouse? My guess is an unqualified yes.

One, simply to burn the office where the tape was kept would be too obvious. As it is, though, the drastic measures he must have taken -- torching the whole place -- is also very obvious. He might be thinking he'll get off on account of reverse psychology, that since it's so obvious he did it we won't believe it to be true. There is something to that. Because even though I'm certain he did it, I still have to wonder, Did he really?

Did he really? That's the question. Would it be worth it to him to burn down a courthouse to destroy one sex tape? Because there's probably nothing on the sex tape that we haven't all seen a million times. Body parts are interchangeable. Just because they're his in this instance doesn't make them unique. The whole thing is ho-hum. Really, sex is the same as shaking hands, you're just using different organs to get the job done. Whether it's John Edwards or Hugh Hefner, what's the big deal?

The fact is, John Edwards better pray that that courthouse had insurance, or he's going to be out a hefty fine. Plus, no one likes a firebug.

UPDATE: Thankfully the tape survived, despite Edwards' best efforts. But even if it hadn't, we can all guess what it showed. The actual tape can't be any worse than our imagination, in which we can picture the scene in its entirety, from its tentative beginning to the satisfied collapse at the end.

John Edwards And Andrew Young

I watched Andrew Young's segment on "Hardball" tonight. It's kind of frightening how close John Edwards came to being president, or at least vice president.

Of course it would've been better if Kerry had beat Bush in 2004, which would've meant Edwards would've been veep. He would've been better than Cheney. Of course anyone would be!

The way Andrew Young described John Edwards, who was a dear friend for quite a while, is that he's someone with no ethics. So Bush, Cheney, Edwards... We could've done worse.

Still, it's definitely a good thing that he didn't get any farther in 2008 than he did, for many reasons.

The charges at the time didn't sound 100% credible and they didn't sound 100% incredible. I was guessing the truth was in the middle somewhere. But we, the common folk, were just sitting here in our homes. We couldn't figure it out until it was all exposed. Fortunately I was never a big Edwards fan, so I wasn't downcast to realize what a slime he was. I never gave him any money so I wasn't invested in him at all.

I met Edwards at a couple of events, one in 2003 and one in 2004. The first one was an intimate little setting -- not intimate in Edwards' terms, but intimate in the sense that there must've been less than 30 people in the room. He seemed very charming, but slick. He was very friendly, of course. In 2004 it was less intimate, because it was a packed place and a rousing speech. I really saw some old people fall in love with him at that, like they were under a spell. At the end of it, somehow I had gotten to the back of the room, right where he ended up coming toward, then would turn toward the door. By the time he got to me -- I believe we shook hands at that turn -- he looked like he was exhilarated by the whole thing. There was some real adulation. Then on to the next place!

By the time 2007 rolled around I had the chance to go see him, but I didn't want to. I'd already seen him in 2004, wasn't going to support him anyway, so what was the use? I drove by a place on my way to Walmart or to exercise or something and he was standing in the road, and it seems like he was doing an interview with a TV station. I should've gone to see him in '07, because that's where the real action was!

My opinion in 2007 was that he shouldn't be running for president, that he should be home enjoying his life with his wife, since she was so bad off. It seemed stupid to me for him to be running for president when he had bigger responsibilities with her. To me that fact alone showed he had some character problems. Little did I know what was really going on!

Andrew Young did a good job on "Hardball." Chris tried to trip him up once, calling him a "rat fink," but he still came out of it looking pretty good.

The Edwards Affair

Back in the '60s, there was a TV show on called "The Man From U.N.C.L.E," which we watched, us kids anyway. All the episode titles had the word "Affair" in them, like "The Green Opal Affair." And I remember asking my mom, "What's an affair?" Nervous laughter ... "Uh, it's like a 'plan.'" So the Green Opal Plan? I still don't get it, what she meant by 'plan.'

These days we have plenty of other Affairs, some planned, maybe some not. It'd be nice to know, in the case of John Edwards' affair, whether he had a roving eye all along and was just waiting to bed down to pretty thing along the trail.

I met him a couple times in 2004, once way up close. I could've asked him anything since it was kind of a cozy little group. I should've asked him, "Are you planning ever to have an affair along the campaign trail?" It didn't occur to me. Too bad I didn't have on a wizard hat and could see off in the future. I might've dropped a few clues to one who proved so clueless, like, "Keep your zipper zipped, Stupid."

Each of the times I saw him, he came into the room like Mr. Charisma. Maybe he had his eye out even then. "The better I look, the better it's gonna go if SHE is here." He entered a room like we were all his best friends in the entire world. Little did we know how friendly he would prove to be! Nitwit.

Now there's another big story about John-Boy, son of a mill worker. Son of something else, too. If you're going to have a big affair, don't keep the campaign going in 2008. We could be suffering under President John McCain at this point.

John Edwards -- One Thing's True

I like this sentence out of an article about John Edwards:

Edwards has declined interviews, the newspaper said, but in his last statement in May, he said he had not used funds inappropriately and he looked forward to a conclusion to the matter.
Out of all of Edwards' lies, this is something I believe, that he probably does look forward to a conclusion to the matter. Who wouldn't?

He should've concluded the matter before it started, the big dope.

I remember the heat of the primary season (not that kind of heat), over at Daily Kos, we had some fervent Edwards' supporters, whom I not-so-lovingly called "bliss bunnies," I don't believe to their faces. They were a weird bunch, with many loving videos to Edwards, almost like teenyboppers with their favorite Jonas Brother.

One thing about the bliss bunnies, you dared not say anything bad about John Edwards. O, woe is me, they'd complain, leave us in peace to worship John Edwards and go back to your own place!

It was one of the most sickening daily posts, the EENR (the Edwards Evening News Roundup), there could ever be. I still feel repulsed just at the memory of it. Teenybopper heaven.

Of course when the news was being leaked about Edwards and his campaign worker having an affair, it was like telling them one of the Care Bears slept around. They were dizzy with denials. And of course the limited credibility of the National Enquirer was always an issue.

Then Edwards admitted it all, but by then he was long gone from the primary and had earned his loss. The whole thing about a kid being his, that was dismissed as a lot of fantasy, because this other guy, Andrew Young, had claimed paternity.

Now it's being rumored about, including by the National Enquirer, that Edwards is about to admit paternity, that DNA confirmed it, etc. So if that happens, one more nail in the coffin.

To me -- and I believe I said this a year ago -- if Edwards denied his own kid for political gain, that's worse than denying the affair. Gee, Daddy, I love you, too!

The short version of this whole story: John Edwards is a scumbag. He was then, he is now.

P.S. - His wife isn't any better.

John Edwards

Scuzbaggery strikes again!

ABC: John Edwards repeatedly lied during his Presidential campaign about an extramarital affair with a novice filmmaker, the former Senator admitted to ABC News today.
The National Enquirer was right after all, maybe not about every little detail, but who knows? Edwards says the baby isn't his, but his word is worth exactly what? Squat. It's kind of weird that he would be at her room with the young'un just a few weeks ago if the affair ended in 2006.

It's crap that he ran for president knowing this secret was out there. Talk about personal ambition getting the best of a guy. We're lucky he didn't make it, not that he really had a chance. Obama was too much for him for one. And if Obama hadn't been there Clinton would've rolled over him for sure. But just think, he put himself forward to be our nominee. A time bomb on board and we would've been his fellow passengers.

As far as believing the National Enquirer, I saw a lot of very angry handwringing over it as a source. And a lot of damnation for anyone who dared to believe anything they would print, despite the fact that they've been right numerous times in the past. Blind faith in a guy, not usually a good virtue.

My own personal opinion through all that was what I believe about most things: Where there's smoke there's fire. Sometimes it doesn't turn out to be fire, but you know what I mean. It usually has a way of being fire if it's persistently smoky.

As far as John Edwards goes, I never thought he was especially good in the first place. I didn't support him for president in 2004 or 2008. To me he seemed all ambition, no abiding principles. This shows exactly how true that is.
