How Many Articles?

How many articles could you write -- like this one -- in the course of a day, if all you had to do was sit there and write them?

Of course you'd need a bunch of topics or a theme. And to get more articles it wouldn't matter if you had any particular expertise. You have an opinion and that's good enough.

I also mean articles of some length, like the basic box you get at Blogger, which, with this line, is halfway complete.

If someone paid you a quarter for each one, no matter how good -- and I don't mean just one sentence repeated over and over by cutting and pasting -- how much money could you make?

I don't know anyone doing that, but it's an interesting thought. Can you babble on and on without going crazy and giving up?

The More You Write

Writing, writing, writing is a good thing for the mind. I used to do a journal, kind of like a blog but it all ended up in a box, and of course it had a lot more personal details. It was an interesting discipline to write it virtually everyday. It meant I was able to write things in my professional life a lot easier. And of course to speak about those things without a lot of preparation.

I like what I hear about professional writers -- somebody I heard this of -- who get up and write for a solid hour or three hours maybe about anything. I'm never going to be a professional writer. One thing, I write like this, and this is a lot different than what you read in a book.

It'd be cool though to have that discipline. I do have it to a certain extent. Like setting a goal to write something everyday and then doing it. Even if it's no good, who cares. I try not to write too much meta, which is what this is, but hey ... I lapsed.

It doesn't make any difference anyway. No one's keeping track. There's no one to answer to.

My Policy on Obama

It's amazing. I became a political drop out as soon as Obama was elected. I have had ZERO interest in following any of it beyond the cabinet picks of the first week or two. I have had no interest in what the blogosphere has been saying, any griping about these individuals. Or Caroline Kennedy. And pretty much no interest in the Blago scandal, except I felt chagrined that the media tried to implicate Obama in it. But I totally -- TOTALLY -- tuned out on watching the news shows on this stuff, so I really missed it.

I can see Bush is definitely leaving Obama a mess to deal with. So completely radical things have to be coming down the pike to get it cleaned up. At this point, what Obama does is OK with me. It just seems so frustrating that there has to be this enormous gap between election day and inauguration day. One, Bush is still in there like a drunken sailor. Two, Obama has to take heat from the media when he really has no power to do anything.

Any other controversies -- Obama with no shirt on, whatever -- I haven't been following. It's all been a zone-out time. We made it to the election, we won, that's it.

Inspired Post: Is McCain AWOL from the Senate?

I've been thinking about it lately. I saw a post somewhere the other day that said McCain is the "laziest" guy in the Senate, and that he hardly ever shows up.

Today we had two biggie votes, the FISA bill and the Medicare thing. And guess who didn't show up to vote? If your answer was "John (W.) McCain" give yourself a gold star. He can't be bothered.

Anyway -- the "Inspired Post of the Day" for me today is this one at Atomic Gay Wonk, called, "Should McCain be considered AWOL from the Senate?"

Lee quotes the Washington Post citation of how many votes McCain has missed, 374 out of 605. Then he makes the point that McCain has missed more votes than Sen. Tim Johnson or Sen. Edward Kennedy. Johnson had a brain hemorrhage and Kennedy a brain tumor. Both were sidelined for a while, Johnson for a long time.

Kundalini Splendor

How could I not link to a blog called Kundalini Splendor? That would be an impossibility. It is good to see it!

This one looks nice, poems and reflections on the spiritual journey by Dorothy Walters. I don't know her but she looks nice. (That's not her, with the beard, but that's Sri Aurobindo.)

She seems to have some perceptive abilities concerning people's auras, lights, etc. From a post today:

"Although I have often seen lights move around others (always some shade of violet or purplish/blue), these were a bit different in appearance. In an earlier workshop with Tamara, I had not seen lights, but rather had observed her features seeming to change into different faces--including several Middle Eastern males and at least one Middle Eastern female. This time it was the lights themselves which caught my attention, and, as always, I found this phenomenon both surprising and delightful. It is as though a spiritual portal is opened, and one is allowed a brief peek into the wonders of other dimensional perception."

Lots of stuff that is worth looking at.

The Secret Sun

From this site, "The Secret Sun is primarily inspired by the teachings of Carl Gustav Jung."

The blog's purpose: "to study the use and mechanics of symbolism and semiotics in pop culture and to chart the phenomenon of Synchronicity in everyday life."

"The goal of this study is to free the mind of the individual, to open up greater possibilities of reality, and to discover ways to use this knowledge to improve one's life experience."

It appears that Jung's work on Synchronicity is important here, with 45 posts tagged with it. But you get a huge sense of the blog's direction with some of its other big tags, UFOs, Occult, Mysteries, Sun Worship, Rock and Roll, Out Gods Wear Spandex, Mythology, Egypt, Ancient Astronauts. Some of the cultural things important here: Comics, X-Files, Jack Kirby.

I haven't watched those shows, I don't read comics, I don't care much about ancient astronauts, sun worship, or UFOs. And Egypt is borderline. But I like the idea of a blog "primarily inspired" by Jung.

Warnings From Heaven

I always find apparitions, visions, and prophetic warnings interesting, even if I'm not all that convinced that they're coming from beyond. I guess I'm not convinced really at all. But that there are things in the highest consciousness bubbling down from our heads and being filtered through our lower quadrants, including the shadow, ego, and mental faculties, I believe that's true. Such as how you remember, conceive of things, fantasize, and come up with inspirations.

The whole business of moods still presents a few mysteries in terms of behavior and what we're capable of. Like the guy who suddenly goes beserk and becomes a mass murderer. Or quick conversions from evil to good. Or clowns who proclaim their perversity loud and clear -- a cry for help? -- before acting it out. (I like clowns. I don't know that I'd like to be alone with one without a clear means of escape.)

Prophecies, though, tend to have a way of not happening. Then when they don't happen, there's some good reason, such as the repentance was sufficient to stem destruction. It's the destruction that happens, then is interpreted that is a lot handier; because it's obviously easier to attribute a reason for what's happened than to say what will happen and here's why.

Prophets, a word from heaven, even from the highest authorities... All this is interesting, fascinating really...

That said, here's a blog -- Apocalyptic Messages of Our Lady and Jesus -- that claims to bring the word from the Virgin Mary about what will happen, or maybe could happen, unless. We've all heard of apparitions of the Virgin. In those apparitions, she often has something to say. I've never studied it in an in-depth way, but I think the warnings have a basic pattern: There's sin, get rid of sin or else. Some of it's cryptic, some of it's in your face. This blog looks like it is filtering politics and political positions through the Virgin's declarations.

Today's declaration, "The end of this era is near at hand." The blog goes on to prophesy destruction for San Francisco over gay marriage. So, we shall see.

One Post: Enveloping Melancholy

I opened this blog, which as of this minute has one post.

But it has an interesting phrase, "seduced by my enveloping melancholy." He might have a knack for evocative phrases, since the title is, "Whispers of a Hesitant Muse."

Being seduced by enveloping melancholy is not my typical way. Although I have been known to speak of "enjoying" your depression, not a phrase that originated with me, by the way. Anytime you say it, though, people look at you like a crazy person. Ha ha.

Thinking of the shadow, and aspects of personality, there is something to "giving the devil his due," and having a happier, more well-rounded life. He, David Worrix, says, "I oftentimes encounter sanctuary and inspiration there."
